[Funding conditions]

CDAQ will fund a maximum of 50% of the cost of a project. The private sector's share must match at least 66% of the funding provided by CDAQ. For an example, click here.

If the project is accepted, CDAQ will fund project expenses from the date the Detailed Study Form is received.

Eligible Expenses

  • Labour costs directly related to the project's completion (fees or wages and fringe benefits of contract workers, surplus employees, consultants, students, etc.).
  • Administration expenses of 8% applied to eligible labour costs.
  • Research overhead costs, up to 15% of academic institution/research centre expenses assumed by the CDAQ.
  • Costs related to results dissemination activities.
  • Travel expenses directly related to the project.
  • Field use, building, machinery, equipment, implement, tool, input or service costs for the duration of the project (these expenses are non-eligible for Pillars 2 & 3).

Non-Eligible Expenses

  • University teacher, federal/provincial government centre researcher or public servant fees.
  • Costs related to training activities.
  • Costs for acquiring lands, buildings, machinery, equipment, implements, tools, inputs or services.
  • Basic research.

CDAQ is not responsible for the payment of the taxes applicable to the total cost of the project. However, the non-refundable portion of the applicant's taxes could be considered in the calculation of the allowable cost of the project without being added to the total fixed amount.

Eligible expenses vary from one program to another. Consult the Programs section of the website for more information of each program.

Payout Terms

For most projects, CDAQ will pay funds to the applicant, as follows:

  • 25% of the amount granted paid after signature of the contract by both parties, as an advance
  • 50% of the amount granted paid after acceptance of deliverable goods, including a progress report showing satisfactory progress, along with copies of supporting documents covering this amount
  • 25% of the amount granted paid after acceptance of deliverable goods, including the final report conforming to CDAQ requirements, along with copies of supporting documents detailing the total expenses incurred for the project.

CDAQ reserves the right to accept a funding request exceeding the standards defined in the programs if it concerns an exceptional project. The exceptional nature of such special projects must be clearly demonstrated. These projects will be referred, along with the Evaluation Committee's recommendations, to the CDAQ Board of Directors, which will make the final decision.
