[Environmental Farm Plan]

TIME FRAME : 2004-2009

In July 2004, MAPAQ and the CDAQ concluded an agreement for the funding of agro-environmental clubs and environmental farm planning, which mandated the CDAQ to administer funds from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada directed to Environmental Farm Plans (EFPs).

The agreement covered the period from April 1, 2004 to March 31, 2008. A new agreement between MAPAQ and the CDAQ was concluded in June 2008 for the administrative and financial management of the program in the 2008-2009 transition period.

The agro-environmental guidance process made it possible to determine the most appropriate solutions for each farm operation. It consisted of four steps:

  1. performing an agro-environmental appraisal of the farm, including phosphorus balance, practices to comply with regulatory requirements, and optimal agro-environmental practices;
  2. developing the EFP by researching and analyzing solutions and preparing the action plan;
  3. implementing the plan;
  4. evaluating the results obtained.

The 83 agro-environmental clubs of Quebec were responsible for developing the EFPs and guiding farm producers in how to follow them.

RESULTS IN THE FIELDS!

Since August 1, 2004, the CDAQ has distributed nearly $23 million to Québec’s agro-environmental clubs for the development of EFPs. In total, club advisors prepared 10 205 EFPs for member farm businesses, while also completing 1000 EFPs for non-members.
